As we continue experiencing growth at LaneSystems, we would like to introduce our second apprentice, Matthew Paley, to the team. We’re looking forward to getting to know him and watching him fully progress within the company.

Q:Hi Matthew, Tell us your job title.

A: ‘Hi, yeah, sure, I’m a Cyber security Apprentice’.

Q: Sounds intriguing! So what exactly does this involve?

A: ‘Well it’s certainly interesting! My role includes back up checks, security checks and I am also learning how to build a PC from scratch. It’s great’!

Q: How long have you been with LaneSystems?

A: ‘Just two weeks! I’m still brand new’!

Q: You seem really keen which is great. Can you tell us a little bit more about your apprenticeship?

A: ‘Absolutely. It’s a virtual apprenticeship which means all the modules I need to complete are online. It’s great really because I don’t have to take time out of the office to attend college. This really works for me’.

Q: Prior to LaneSystems have you done any studying?

A: ‘Yes, i’m actually completing a college course on networking. This involves understanding IT related networks and how they work’.

Q: Fantastic! A course that we are sure will stand you in good stead for a successful start at LaneSystems. So what modules will you be completing within your apprenticeship?

A: ‘There’s quite a few actually. Off the top of my head, there’s an Introduction to Cyber Security, Networking and Digital Communications Theory and Ethical Hacking Associate. There are other modules too and of course we have to study and understand things like GDPR, Health and Safety and the such like’.

Q: Why did you decide on an apprenticeship?

A:Since leaving school and going to college, I realised that the classroom wasn’t for me. I much prefer being within a working environment and learning on the job. I also thought I would gain more practical IT experience when actually seeing the processes myself’.

Q: How’s your experience of working with LaneSystems so far?

A: It’s brilliant, I absolutely love it! My mentor, Lee, is amazing and guides me through each day whilst answering any questions. It’s a great team.

Q: Where did your interest for all things IT come from?

A: ‘My uncle has inspired me all the way. He has a prominent position with a well known IT networking company. Ever since I was young I have listened to him tell stories about his work and it’s always intrigued me’.

Q: Fantastic! Tell us what you enjoy doing in your spare time.

A: ‘I love mixed martial arts! I actually have two black belts, the first of which I gained jat ust age 9! My second black belt is in Muay Thai. I was coaching from the age of 10 and have competed across the country winning 4 and losing only 2’.

It sounds to us like our very own Mark Shields who is heading to the World Martial Arts championships, make have some competition!
Great interview Matthew, we are very much looking forward to your progression and hope you continue to enjoy working with LaneSystems.
